On 1 August 2009, "Nederland in Japan 2008-2009" organized a cocktail partyon the Kankou-maru in Yokohama for 200 guests. This date was chosen because it coincided with the 23th Kanagawa Newspaper Fireworks, giving all guests stunning views of the fireworks from the boat's deck.

The Kankou-maru was originally a Dutch warship presented in 1855 by the Dutch King, Willem III, to the Japanese government. The replica of the Kankou-maru (65.8 meters, 250 passengers) was built in 1987 in the Netherlands and is currently used as a tourism ship at "Huis Ten Bosch" in Nagasaki.

On Sunday 2 August 3 cruises were organized in Yokohama bay.
